Prevention of Mental Illness

The only way we could possibly manage the supply and demand balance is to shift focus from the acute care of the mentally ill to prevention of mental illness and promotion of mental wellness! To promote self-detection and self-management skills from young ages and to teach parents to look for signs of mental illness.

If you notice a recurrent pattern of illness or infection in yourself or your child, would you not seek medical help and think about the possibility of a problem with the immune system? Remember, the defense mechanisms of the ego mean to the human psyche what the immune system means to the human body. With proper education and knowledge, if we notice signs of repeated red flags in our thoughts, feelings, or behaviours, we are likely using one or more of the destructive defense mechanisms – which means we need to act fast and seek psychological help. Otherwise, chances are these early traits will solidify in the brain into a more explicit mental disorder.
